Southern Comfort

Sailing Itinerary

One of the most exciting aspects of a sailing vacation aboard Southern Comfort is the fact that there is no set itinerary or agenda.  Unlike a cruise ship or Windjammer, where you are just along for the ride, on Southern Comfort, we tailor your sailing adventure to satisfy your dreams.  Whether you want to dance to reggae music every night, count the stars in an out-of-the-way anchorage, or hit the top dive spots, our Crew knows where to take you.  There's a great deal of flexibility, and no two vacations are ever alike.

Upon boarding Southern Comfort, our Crew will discuss your interests and work out a daily routine and route.  You decide when you want to have breakfast, how many hours a day you'd like to sail, snorkel, dive or simply laze on the beach. If you're interested, our Crew will encourage you to sail the boat-- handling the helm, tacking and trimming the sails.  You are welcome to participate as much (or as little) as you'd like. If you want pointers on sailing techniques, our Crew will be happy to comply.

So, the itinerary depends on your preferences.   First trip to the BVI's? It's impossible to see everything in a one-week charter, but there are some "must see" spots: the Caves at Norman Island, the Baths on Virgin Gorda, for divers, the Wreck of the Rhone off Salt Island, the Bitter End Resort in North Sound, Virgin Gorda and White Bay on Jost Van Dyke.  Many guests love the trip to Anegada, the "drowned island", if weather conditions permit, and enjoy a fabulous lobster cookout on the beach at the Anegada Reef Hotel, providing they catch lobster that day (and they almost always do).

Our crew know the top swimming, snorkeling and scuba spots in the BVI's.  If that's high on your list, they'll make sure you have plenty of water time.  Still looking for things to do?  How about water-skiing? kneeboarding? kayaking? windsurfing? fishing? It's all possible, if you're interested.

If you want an active night life, there's world famous Foxy's on Jost van Dyke, the Willy T and Billy Bones on Norman, the Bath and Turtle And Rock Cafe at Spanishtown, Virgin Gorda. A really crazy time can be had at the famous Full Moon Party at the Bomba Shack, Tortola, held the night of each month's full moon.   Just let our Crew know your wishes!

Here's a possible itinerary:

Day 1 - Anchor in the Bight, Norman Island; snorkel the Caves; dive the Indians.
Day 2 - Anchor in Great Harbor, Peter Island, a great place for night snorkeling.
Day 3 - Dock at Spanishtown, Virgin Gorda; visit the Baths.
Day 4 - Anchor at the Bitter End, Virgin Gorda; snorkel, water-ski, dive the Chimney.
Day 5 - Sail to Anegada; visit Loblolly Beach.
Day 6 - Anchor at Great Harbor, Jost Van Dyke; swim at White Bay.
Day 7 - Anchor at Marina Cay; stop off at Sandy Spit to swim, dive the Playground.

There are many variations, especially for divers and repeat guests. Our Crew have many personal favorites, which they'll be happy to share with you. If you have specific requests or questions, you can e-mail our Crew at
